Campbell Mithun Impresses Musicland

CHICAGO Retail chain Musicland Group has named Campbell Mithun lead advertising agency for its Musicland, Sam Goody, Suncoast video and Media Play chains.

The Minneapolis agency won the account following a review of undisclosed contenders. The shop will take over the business in advance of the holiday season, creating print and broadcast advertising for all of the Minnetonka, Minn., company’s properties. The account was previously handled in-house.

“What impressed us about Campbell Mithun was their expertise in retail advertising as well as their ability to manage the complexities of a retail account while producing highly creative work,” said Musicland director of consumer marketing Aurora Toth in a statement. “We look forward to working together as we develop the distinct personalities of each of our brands.”

Musicland was formerly a division of Best Buy Inc. Sun Capital Partners, an investment firm in Boca Raton, Fla., bought the unit in June in an all-stock transaction.

Annual billings were not disclosed. Musicland spent $6 million on advertising last year, according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
