Leo Burnett confirmed on Friday plans to shutter next month its Leo Burnett Technology Group office in Boston.

The move came as no surprise. The local office at its peak last year claimed $76 million in billings — making it one of New England’s larger shops. However, recent client defections, notably CMGI, and the soft economy took their toll.

The Boston unit, beset by two rounds of layoffs and the departure of president Jeff Winsper in recent months, will close with about 10-12 employees.
