BSSP Adds Fallon’s Szostak as Senior Planner

SAN FRANCISCO Butler, Shine, Stern & Partners has hired Suzanne Szostak from Fallon as senior account planner, following the independent shop’s win of the Converse account.

Szostak was the lead planner on the Lee Jeans account at Fallon and a youth culture analyst for Fallon Trend, according to an agency representative. Her team won an Effie Award this month for a Lee campaign targeting young men.

Greg Stern, CEO of the Sausalito, Calif., agency, said Szostak brings added depth to the growing planning department and expertise in identifying relevant youth-focused communications. “Youth culture has always been an important part of our business and is quite significant for our clients,” he said.

Converse, JanSport, Leap Wireless, LucasArts and PB Teen (Pottery Barn) are among the agency’s clients that market to the youth sector.

Szostak joins a department led by planner Edward Cotton, who was a founder of McCann Erickson’s youth marketing arm, Magic Hat in Europe. She also will be a part BSSP’s Influx Strategic Consulting division, a unit that links brands to culture.

In 2000, Szostak joined Fallon as an account planner, working on accounts such as Lee and Citibank. Prior to that, she was an instructor and researcher at the University of Minnesota, where she received her master’s degree.
