Brinegar Rounds Out Apl’s Executive Team In Chicago

The executive hierarchy at Ammirati Puris Lintas’ new office here was completed last week with the hiring of Leo Burnett account director Brad Brinegar as president.
Two of APL’s top three jobs now feature former Burnetters, with Jon Moore signing on as co-creative director earlier this month. Brinegar, 42, was a senior vice president and account director at Burnett, overseeing First Brands’ Glad Bags and cheese advertising for Dairy Management Inc. He had been with the agency for 18 years, having joined right out of graduate school.
“It’s frankly the kind of call you just don’t get too often,” Brinegar said. “I’ve always had a strong entrepreneurial bent.”
Moore, whom Brinegar said last week he had yet to meet despite their joint tenure at Burnett, is joined at the creative helm by Tim Kane, formerly of J. Walter Thompson in New York.
APL Chicago, opened after the agency won creative responsibilities on Ameritech’s $100 million account last July, will seek new business, but Brinegar said he will ensure that the Ameritech account is on track before entering pitches.
Brinegar’s hiring ends a selection process that began last summer and came down to a shortlist of five. Numerous Chicago ad executives said they talked to APL through executive recruitment agency DHR International.
Also joining APL is Jean McLaren, who will head up the Ameritech business as an executive vice president and managing director. McLaren leaves Foote, Cone & Belding here, where she was a senior vice president and group account director.
APL’s other North American office outside New York is in Toronto. Martin Puris, chairman and chief executive officer of APL Worldwide, was out of the country last week and could not be reached for comment, according to his office.
