Blast Radius Bolsters Creative Group

NEW YORK Blast Radius has added two award-winning creative talents to its team, naming Mauro Alencar and Marcus Ericsson creative director and art director, respectively.

Ericsson, who took home a gold Clio in 2002 for a Vodafone campaign, will work on projects for Nike, Nintendo and other consumer goods and retail clients. It has yet to be determined which teams will be led by Alencar, who has garnered numerous awards including a Cannes Grand Prix Lion in 2000 for a Sao Paulo Eye Bank banner ad.

Based at the i-shop’s Vancouver, B.C., headquarters, both will report to Amber Bezahler, director of user experience. They replace Blair Kennedy and Andre Matarazzo, two art directors who recently transferred to Blast Radius’ office in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Prior to joining Blast Radius, Alencar was a creative director at WPP Group’s J. Walter Thompson in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Also in Brazil, Alencar was a creative strategy director at AgenciaClick, a copywriter at DM9DDB and owner and creative director at Innova Comunicacao.

In addition to his Grand Prix, Alencar has received two gold, two silver and three bronze Lions at the Cannes International Ad Festival; one gold and two silver Clio Awards; and two gold Pencils, two silver and one bronze at The One Show.

Ericsson most recently was a senior designer at Arachnid in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for about a year, working on brands such as Volvo, HSBC and Coca-Cola. Before that, he was a creative director at Paregos in Skelleftea, Sweden, for two years.
