Big Haul for Hauser’s Shrimp Ads

ATLANTA The Hauser Group won the 14th annual Max Award for marketing excellence today for its branding program on behalf of American shrimp fishermen.

Atlanta-based Jameson Inns shared the top award with the independent Atlanta shop. Jameson Inns won for its frequent guest program that gives regular customers a 10 percent discount on their room in the form of stock in the company.

The two grand prizewinners were named Friday morning at a breakfast ceremony in the Atlantic Station district here.

The Max Award is presented annually by Georgia State University in Atlanta and the Atlanta Business Chronicle to recognize the best new products, services and marketing innovations by Georgia companies.

The Hauser Group won for its work for Wild American Shrimp, the marketing arm of the Southern Shrimp Alliance, which represents the interests of shrimp fishermen in eight Southern states. American shrimpers are competing against farm-raised shrimp imported from other countries, which account for 85 percent of the shrimp eaten in the U.S. Hauser’s ads have been published in national magazines and run on cable television networks.

“This year, we have two outstanding grand winners,” said Ken Bernhardt, regents’ professor of marketing at the Robinson College of Business at GSU. “Both companies used out-of-the-box thinking to develop programs that create an emotional connection between their brand and their customers and gain significant competitive advantage for their companies.”
