I am embarrassed to admit: I immediately reach for my phone and check my emails. I hear it’s a bad thing to do because it immediately puts you in a stressful headspace. Then I look at music sites like Pitchfork or Stereogum. I get my regular news from the AP app that I have on my phone, but I don’t get the alerts like my wife does. I think the AP’s definition of breaking news is different than mine. Tell us about your go-to social media platforms. I get really into one—whatever the most popular one is—and then I skip over the next one. So, for instance, I made a really good MySpace page, and then Facebook came along, and I was like, “No thanks.” So I passed on Facebook. Clearly I didn’t know how to pick a winner. I’m really into Twitter, but then I skipped Vine. I actually just went to the Vine offices to learn about it, and I’m going to try to start using it. You’re co-founder of the Earwolf. What are your favorite podcasts? I got into listening to podcasts through my friend Jimmy Pardo’s podcast, Never Not Funny, which we actually just started distributing a couple of months ago. I also really like Doug Benson’s show Doug Loves Movies. Improv4Humans is super funny. And my wife’s show, Who Charted?, is great. What’s your favorite app? I really like … what’s the one that you hold up to music and it tells you what song it is? Shazam, yeah. I wish there was an app that I could hold up to my head to figure out the name of the app I’m thinking of. What TV shows do you watch? I love Mad Men. I think it’s one of the greatest TV achievements of the past 25 years. I watch a lot of dramas like Justified, The Americans, pretty much anything on HBO. I watch Game of Thrones even though I have no idea what’s going on. Usually there will be some boobs or someone getting their throat slit—that’ll wake me up. As far as comedy, I love Parks and Recreation, Nathan for You, and Review with Andy Daly. What’s on your reading list? The book I’m in the middle of is an oral history of New Wave music called Mad World. Every chapter focuses on one song, like Adam and the Ants’ “Kings of the Wild Frontier.” I also read a lot of comic books. Mark Waid’s Daredevil is great, The Superior Foes of Spider-Man, Black Science, and Fables is my all-time favorite. You had President Obama on Between Two Ferns a few months back. Are politicians lining up to be on the show now? It’s weird; we haven’t heard from a single politician! We’ve had a lot of actors though. Like, every single actor in the world, big and small, has come to us. But politicians are welcome! I’d love to get debates going on there during the next election. I’d love to see Hillary Clinton versus Ted Cruz.
