Two weeks after beginning a second round of layoffs, Chicago-based i-shop Leapnet has decided to sell the operating assets of Planet Leap, its globalization unit, to Berlitz GlobalNET, a unit of Berlitz International.

Based in New York, Planet Leap should strengthen Berlitz GlobalNET’s foothold in the technology, pharmaceutical and entertainment sectors. As part of the deal, Leapnet will continue to offer globalization services, including translation, localization and multilingual e-business consulting, through Princeton, N.J.-based Berlitz GlobalNET.

Last month Leapnet laid off 80 employees, or about 13 percent of its payroll, while in November the i-shop let go 45 workers.
