Bell Gets Both IPG Titles

NEW YORK Interpublic Group vice chairman David Bell was named chairman and CEO of the troubled holding company today. His predecessor, John Dooner, is returning to the job he held prior to moving to IPG in January 2001, worldwide CEO of McCann-Erickson WorldGroup. Dooner, 54, replaces Jim Heekin, 53, who was fired.

In a statement, Frank Borelli, presiding director of the IPG Board of Directors, said “John’s decision is a bold one – for Interpublic to succeed, McCann must lead the way.” And of Bell he said, “We are fortunate to have an executive who is so well suited to assume the responsibilities of Chairman and CEO. He is widely respected in the advertising industry world, where he was a successful agency leader, the only person to have chaired all of the industry’s leading professional associations and the head of a major holding company.
