Behind The Scenes

Borders’ spot highlighting how describing plotlines of books and movies brings folks together featured “something like 51 principals”—all detailing a plot to others in a seamless sequence, said Tim Roper, a cd at Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Miami, which did the spot. Thank director Jim Sheridan (In America, In the Name of the Father) for the continuity of the spot, shot in and around Los Angeles in October, Roper says. “Jim could probably act better than the actors,” he says. “He got in front of the camera and did every scene, demonstrating pitch of emotion. I wish we had cut an entire spot with him playing every role.” Unknowns star in the ad. “They had one line to deliver—they don’t have to be Laurence Olivier,” Roper says. “Only one guy in there is recognizable, and he’s a stand-up comic, so he’s supposed to be.”
