WASHINGTON Charlotte Beers, the former advertising executive who is Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy, will resign her position at the State Department in three weeks for health reasons, a State Department official said.

Beers has been under increasing fire for her “Shared Values” campaign targeted at Muslim countries to improve America’s image abroad. Countries like Saudia Arabia and Egypt refused to air the work, done by IPG shop McCann-Erickson.

“She put all her eggs in this one basket and she wasn’t able to come up with anything new and vibrant,” the State Department official said.
