Becton Division, 5 Others Select Lehman Millet

Rebounding from recent setbacks, Lehman Millet has gained several assignments worth “well into the seven figures” in billings, according to agency president Bruce Lehman.
The Boston-based medical specialty shop will serve as agency of record for Surgical Sealants, Woburn, Mass.; Newport Data Associates, Brunswick, Maine; and a division of Becton Dickinson, Franklin Lakes, N.J. Those new clients will draw on virtually all the agency’s services, including general advertising, media placement, strategic planning, market research, graphic design and interactive marketing.
Lehman Millet has also picked up work from Hologic, Waltham, Mass.; Ergo Science, Boston; and Orthovita, Malvern, Pa.
Working for a division of Becton Dickinson, a global healthcare research and development firm with $2.8 billion in sales, provides Lehman Millet with a potentially high-profile appointment that could take the shop to the next level, Lehman said.
Lehman Millet will support Becton Dickinson products designed to better match patients and medications. Lehman called the division’s mission “monumental” because adverse drug reactions are the fourth-leading cause of death in the U.S.
The wins “more than replenish the losses” the agency has endured, Lehman said. In the past few weeks, a unit of Perkin-Elmer moved its business to Philip Johnson Associates in Cambridge, Mass., and Mitek Products switched to Arrco Medical Advertising in Westwood, Mass.
All told, Lehman Millet now claims more than $40 million in overall billings, a 20 percent gain over the previous fiscal year, Lehman said.
The goal of the 42-person shop is to repeat that improvement next year, Lehman said. “There’s plenty of opportunity to grow” in the medical and scientific marketplace.
