Beck, who is expected to join Fremont, Calif.-based SRH client Starsight Telecast as marketing communications manager, will not be replaced. Agency president Greg Helm said that he will take over as director of account management and will also hire a management supervisor. Beck’s strategic planning duties will be filled by Jerry Schweitzer, recently hired as senior vp, director of strategic planning.
Beck, reached at home, declined comment on her departure and said her plans to join Starsight had not been firmed up.
‘She got lured away, writing a wonderful marketing plan for our client,’ said Helm.
Helm hired Beck in late 1991 to balance the agency’s creative emphasis with a more centered, strategic element. The pair had worked together in the early ’80s when he was at Chiat/Day and she was on the client side at Apple and then at Maxicare. Beck ultimately became head of client services at Lord, Dentsu & Partners before leaving to open an agency consultancy.
Stein Robaire Helm recently lost its largest account, the home furnishings chain Ikea U.S. West, which consolidated its advertising at New York-based Deutsch/Dworin.
