BBDO’s Duff to Helm Publicis in N.Y.

NEW YORK Gill Duff, who was senior account director on the estimated $80 million FedEx account at Omnicom Group’s BBDO, is joining Publicis Groupe’s Publicis here in July as president and CEO, the latter agency confirmed.

Duff, 44, will report to Publicis USA chairman and chief executive Susan Gianinno.

He joined BBDO in April 2003 from a consultancy he launched in his hometown of Nashville, Tenn. BBDO said it has yet to select a replacement.

Duff reported to BBDO New York president and CEO John Osborn, who will run the FedEx account going forward.

In a statement, Osborn said Gill’s hire “speaks volumes about the quality of the work on FedEx and the importance the industry places on the FedEx brand.” A client rep could not be reached for comment.

Duff has held account positions at Young & Rubicam, D’Arcy, Leo Burnett and Foote Cone & Belding during his career and has worked on accounts such as Anheuser-Busch, AT&T, Kraft, Miller Brewing, Molson Breweries, Blockbuster and Heinz.

Publicis’ clients include Allied Domecq, Ernst & Young, L’Oreal, Fujifilm, Heineken, BMW, Procter & Gamble and TBS Superstation. The agency’s New York office notched estimated 2003 revenue of $69 million on billings of $700 million; each figure was up about 65 percent from the previous year.
