BBDO Unit Bolsters Client Service

CHICAGO Omnicom Group’s Energy BBDO has hired Doug Ryan as global client service director on the agency’s Beam Global Spirits and Wine accounts, a new position, the agency confirmed.

Ryan, 43, who will report to agency president and CEO Tonise Paul, was most recently chief marketing officer and managing partner at WPP Group’s Young & Rubicam in Chicago. During his three-year tenure at Y&R, Ryan worked to integrate the agency’s offerings. He also worked on the Jim Beam account when it was at Y&R.

“He’s got a wonderful blend of experience on both the multinational front and integrated communication,” Paul said. “He’s been on both the agency and client side. He’s also very creatively minded. He’s a great fit for our organization all the way around.”

Prior to joining Y&R, Ryan was a vice president at UNext, a for-profit educational company, where he led sales and marketing in the U.S., Asia, Europe and Latin America. He began his career at Leo Burnett, working with clients such as Reebok, Kellogg’s, Hallmark and Philip Morris. Ryan also was a founding member of the agency’s Giant Step Interactive unit, which worked for clients such as McDonald’s and Oldsmobile.

“Energy BBDO is a remarkable agency,” Ryan said in a statement. “To have the chance to bring the resources of this agency to a high-caliber client like Beam is a rare opportunity.”

Beam Global Spirits and Wine spent nearly $20 million on U.S. measured media last year and more than $8 million through the first half of 2006, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
