BBDO Enters Review for Long John Silver’s

NEW YORK–BBDO has made a late entry as the fourth shop participating in this week’s final pitch for the broadcast creative portion of Long John Silver’s estimated $20 million account, the client confirmed. Mike Baker, vp of national advertising for Long John Silver’s, said BBDO called and requested to be added to the contender list. The other three shops pitching the business are Cliff Freeman and Partners, New York, Campbell-Ewald Advertising, Warren, Mich., and Foote, Cone & Belding, Chicago. BBDO and FCB are both on the Tricon Global roster, which recently bought Long John Silver’s. BBDO New York handles Pizza Hut and KFC, while FCB’s West Coast offices handle Taco Bell. However, Baker said that while Long John Silver’s “admired [BBDO’s] work for KFC,” the Tricon connection did not play a role in the decision to allow BBDO into the review.

Creative Alliance in Louisville, Ky., will continue to handle print creative. Empower MediaMarketing will continue to handle all media. The Louisville, Ky., client split with Fallon in Minneapolis last month after two years over differences on direction, sources said.

A decision on Long John Silver’s is expected by mid-June.
