CHICAGO Bates Midwest today became a wholly-owned subsidiary of J. Walter Thompson called Roman Brandgroup, executives at the Indianapolis agency said.

The shop, which claims $60 million in billings from clients including ITT Educational Services, Cinergy and the Indiana Lottery, became part of the WPP Group when the holding company acquired Cordiant Communications Group this summer.

The Roman Brandgroup will remain under the direction of chairman Dan Roman, who reports to JWT chief financial officer Lewis Trencher.
