Barkley Evergreen Wins Kids Stores

CHICAGO Build-A-Bear Workshop, a chain of stores in which children can make their own stuffed animals, has tapped Barkley Evergreen & Partners to be its lead advertising agency after a review involving undisclosed contenders.

The Kansas City, Mo., shop is developing a strategic marketing plan that will take advantage of seasonal opportunities. The shop’s assignment is expected to involve advertising, public relations and in-store promotions.

BE&P recently completed a project for the St. Louis company promoting Nikki’s Bear, a special initiative to help children with cancer. That promotion will continue through the fall.

“The Build-A-Bear concept is a strong idea,” said BE&P chief creative officer and chief executive officer Brian Brooker in a statement. “The brand deserves equally strong, inspired ideas. We plan to deliver.”

Billings were not disclosed, and the client’s previous agency could not immediately be determined. Build-A-Bear spent less than $1 million on advertising last year, according to TNS Media Intelligence/CMR.

Build-A-Bear operates 125 stores in 35 states.
