A-B Sweeps AOL Super Bowl Ad Poll

NEW YORK Anheuser-Busch scored big among America Online voters, garnering the top six positions in AOL’s second annual Super Bowl advertising poll for its Budweiser and Bud Light commercials.

The winner: “Born a Donkey,” a spot that follows the travails of a donkey who yearns to be a Budweiser Clydesdale. The execution from Omnicom Group’s Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco earned 11 percent, or more than 175,000 of the 1.6 million total votes cast on AOL and AOL.com.

That commercial edged out Bud Light’s “Sleigh Ride” by about 10,000 votes. The runner-up from Omnicom’s DDB in Chicago shows a farting horse abruptly ending a romantic winter date.

“Dogs Fetching” took third place with 8 percent of the vote. The spot, via Omnicom’s Downtown Partners in Toronto, depicts a dog fetching his master’s Bud Light by taking aim at a braggart’s crotch.

Bud Light’s “Chimpanzee” came in fourth, followed closely by Budweiser’s “Referee” and “Spa Treatment.”

Other ads making the list include: 7-Up’s “Delivery Truck” (5 percent); Chevrolet’s “Soap” (4 percent); Pepsi’s “Mountain Man” (4 percent); AOL’s “Motorcycle” (4 percent); and Frito-Lay’s “Grandparents” (4 percent).

This year’s results more than doubled the 600,000 votes cast in AOL’s ad poll during the same 12-hour period last year that declared Pepsi Twist’s commercial featuring the Osbournes the winner.
