Auctioning For The Ad Club

After the 430 attendees had departed and the new silver Beetle was driven away, the Advertising Club of Greater Boston had raised $93,000 at its 22nd annual auction.
Held at Boston’s Copley Plaza hotel, the black-tie affair offered 22 donated prizes for bid. The most talked-about item was a Volkswagen Beetle donated by the automaker and Arnold Communications. The car was sold for $20,000 to Janet Karger, senior vice president and general manager of KISS-108 FM.
Among the evening’s biggest spenders were Gearon Hoffman principal Bob Hoffman and Fleet Financial Group’s Betsy Richardson.
A trip to Ireland was contributed by Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos, while Ingalls Advertising donated airfare and a weekend for two at a Radisson Hotel.
“This year, we scaled down the number of formal prize packages to 22, which made it faster, kept people’s attention and gave them something really cool to talk about over dinner,” said the club’s Sue Torres. –Sarah Jones
