NEW YORK Ask Jeeves said that it has acquired substantially all of the assets of Tukaroo, a desktop search technology company.

The deal comes a month after the Emeryville, Calif.-based company closed its $501 million acquisition of Interactive Search Holdings.

Since its 2001 purchase of the Teoma search engine, Ask Jeeves’ strategy has been to “build or acquire differentiated, next-generation, best-in-class products or technologies,” said CEO Steve Berkowitz.

Tukaroo’s technology allows users to do searches of files and the contents on their hard drive, the local network and the Internet.
