Applebee’s Shifts Media to Starcom

CHICAGO Applebee’s International said it has shifted its $100 million media account to Publicis Groupe’s Starcom USA from Interpublic Group’s Initiative. There was no review.

The Chicago-based agency will handle planning and buying across all media and explore new media opportunities.

“I’ve known Starcom’s principals for 20 years and consider them the best in the business, bar none,” said John Cywinski, chief marketing officer for the Overland Park, Kan., client, in a statement. “Starcom’s commitment to consumer insights, strategic planning and innovation, combined with its buying strength, make it the ideal partner for Applebee’s going forward.”

Applebee’s creative agency is IPG’s Foote Cone & Belding in Chicago, while WPP Group’s Wunderman in Chicago handles promotions. Recent campaigns have been tagged, “Eatin’ good in the neighborhood.”
