AOL to Double College Fund Contributions

NEW YORK America Online has partnered with Upromise, a customer-loyalty and college-savings program, to double the money contributed to members’ college funds when they shop at participating merchants.

Through an online process, AOL members can register information about their favorite credit cards, supermarket savings cards or preferred shopping programs. After that, when they make a purchase at contributing companies, including most major grocery and drugstores, Exxon and Mobil locations and McDonald’s restaurants, a portion of the total price is placed into their Upromise savings account and those savings are doubled by AOL.

For the 1 million AOL members who already have joined Upromise, they can connect both accounts to receive the extra savings.

To educate subscribers about the program, AOL this week is breaking a $30 million TV, radio and print campaign from Omnicom Group’s BBDO in New York. The online portion of the effort will consist of banners and rich-media ads running throughout the AOL service and promotion on the Welcome Screen.
