Anastas Bringing Marketing, New Media Savvy To Think’s L.A. Office

Jonathan Anastas, vice president of marketing at Digital Evolution and a former executive of Saatchi & Saatchi’s Torrance, Calif., office, has joined Think New Ideas as vice president, account director.
The move appears to signal a commitment by the agency to beef up its new media capabilities on the West Coast. Its Los Angeles office has primarily focused on the traditional advertising services formerly offered by Fathom Advertising, which Think acquired last spring.
Anastas will focus on the New York-based agency’s West Coast accounts, including Network Associates and former Fathom client Oracle. However, Think chief executive Ron Bloom said Anastas’ blend of traditional marketing and new media experience will be useful to clients throughout the agency network.
“[Anastas] brings a high level of integration skills from technology and advertising that can be applied to interactive,” said Bloom. “That’s the Think m.o.; that’s the type of blend we like.”
Until now, Think’s New York office has boasted more new media resources than the Los Angeles unit. Bloom said Anastas’ hiring will serve to enhance the Los Angeles office’s existing new media capabilities.
At Brentwood, Calif.-based Digital Evolution, Anastas played a key role in business development. He introduced the agency to high-profile advertisers such as Levi Strauss & Co. and Absolut, both of which heard pitches from Digital in their short-list reviews for a new media shop during the past year. (CKS Group, Cupertino, Calif., won the Levi’s business, while Red Sky Interactive, San Francisco, was named Absolut’s interactive agency of record.)
In addition to losing Anastas, DE is weathering the nearly simultaneous departure of creative director Josh Rose, who has joined Box Top Interactive in Los Angeles.
“[Anastas and Rose] have chosen to pursue other opportunities, and we wish them the best,” said a company representative. No replacements will be named, as other staffers are expected to assume their duties.
“It’s business as usual here,” said the representative, adding that the company does not expect any disruption in its pursuit of new clients.
In addition to marketing services, DE also focuses on software development.
