Amazon, Maher in ‘Fishbowl’

NEW YORK Online retailer Amazon.com will attempt to expand its brand by offering a weekly online program, Amazon Fishbowl With Bill Maher.

Streamed live through a high-definition media player, the program, slated to run for 12 weeks starting June 1, will begin showing previews on Jan. 24. Highlights will include a musical performance by Matchbox 20’s Rob Thomas and an interview with novelist Stephen King.

Amazon Fishbowl With Bill Maher has a simple, yet powerful mission—to help our customers discover new books, films and music, and to help the creators of these works find new audiences,” Kathy Savitt, Amazon.com vp of strategic communications, content and initiatives, said in a statement.

Amazon will debut the show this weekend at the Sundance Film Festival.

Sponsored by UPS, every episode will feature a surprise special delivery to a randomly selected customer. Last summer, UPS helped Amazon.com celebrate its 10th anniversary by surprising dozens of customers across the country that opened their doors to find a UPS driver alongside their favorite stars, such as Harrison Ford, Michael J. Fox, Nick Lachey and Jeff Bridges.
