Halcyon Associates, Dallas, has formed Mercury Technology Group, a new division that provides Internet and CD-ROM services and products.
The Maxfield Group, Irving, developed a direct mail campaign for GTE Corp. encouraging customers to add a second phone line. The piece was distributed to 1.4 million homes.
Vollmer Public Relations, Houston, was awarded the 1996 Grand Excalibur Best of Show Award from the Public Relations Society of America’s Houston Chapter. The winning entry was a campaign promoting Travelocity, an Internet Web site.
SCA Promotions, Dallas, developed a promotion for the Star Trek phone card created by Future Call Co.
PR/Texas, Fort Worth, was named to provide public relations and marketing for Vann Martin’s Salon in Fort Worth.
Three campaigns developed by Bates Southwest, Houston, for Mississippi Power earned 11 first-place awards from Utility Communicators International.
Paul Lazzaro & Associates, Fort Worth, was selected to consult, place media and promote recruitment for the Americorps national service program in nine Southwestern states.
Rhodes Stafford Wines Creative, Dallas, was chosen to handle print, broadcast and direct mail efforts for Classic BMW, the largest BMW dealership in Texas.
Phillips, Team & Myers, Fort Worth, has begun offering a Web site development service called Virtually There.
Sherry Matthews Advertising, Austin, was selected by the Advisory on State Emergency Communications to assist with a statewide 9-1-1 public education campaign. Assignments include creating radio spots and print materials.
TateAustin, Austin, was named agency of record for the Austin Museum of Art. Duties include creative broadcast work, print advertising and signage.
AdVice Advertising, Houston, was retained by three Houston-area dry cleaners to handle creative services and media placement. New to the shop’s roster are Coastal Cleaners, Ryan’s Express and Lakewood Cleaners.
Byrne Johnson, Dallas, was chosen to develop a marketing campaign for Barbee & Gehrt, a Dallas-based law firm.
The Hart Agency, Dallas, was tapped to handle public relations for Quest Capital Management, a financial planning firm.
Hadeler Sullivan Ewing, Dallas, earned 10 awards in Healthcare Marketing Reports’ 14th annual advertising competition. HSE’s winning entries included work for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Texas, Children’s Medical Center of Dallas and St. Mary’s Family Health Care Centers.
A campaign created by Staats, Falkenberg & Partners, Austin, was named a finalist in the Portfolio Awards sponsored by the Financial Communications Society of New York. The entry was created for the Federal Land Bank Associations of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
Jeffrey Communications, Houston, has added Terra Air Services, Petris Technology and TTG Systems as new accounts.
Love Advertising, Houston, recently completed a campaign for the Houston Police Officers Union.
Dallas Area Rapid Transit won the 1996 Marketer of the Year award for its introduction of DART Rail. Larkin, Meeder & Schweidel’s Knape Group, Dallas, created the campaign. The award was presented by the Dallas/Fort Worth chapter of the American Marketing Association.
A spot developed by Witherspoon & Associates, Fort Worth, and Aries Productions, Arlington, was awarded a Bronze Quill Award of Excellence. The entry was a PSA for the North Texas Clean Air Coalition.
Mark Hoffmeister of Dallas-based Fast Cuts Edits recently edited a series of TV spots for Temerlin McClain and client Paramount Theme Parks.
Heberto Gutierrez, president of Inventiva in San Antonio, will receive the Silver Medal from the local chapter of the American Advertising Federation. The award, the organization’s highest, will be presented at a luncheon on July 14.
Eastern Onion, a Houston-based entertainment company, selected the Unknown Ad Guys, Houston, to develop a series of 30-second TV commercials.
Cool Films, Houston, recently completed three 30-second TV spots for the new IMAX film, Alaska, Spirit of the Wild.
