MRM Partners was awarded the advertising account for St. John’s University, based in the New York City borough of Queens. The New York shop, a unit of McCann-Erickson WorldGroup, will also handle the school’s broader, strategic marketing needs. Billings were undisclosed. Founded in 1870 by the Vincentian community, St. John’s University has six schools and colleges. The university has an enrollment of approximately 18,600 students and campuses in Queens, Staten Island, Manhattan, Oakdale and Rome.
Dotglu, the year-old, digital and direct marketing spinoff of Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners, cut four people from its 44-person work force in an effort to remain cash positive, Dotglu CEO Tina Cohoe confirmed. New York-based Dotglu claims $60 million in billings from clients such as Revlon, Wyndham Hotels and Citibank.
Digital Pulp, a New York-based advertising and Web-development firm, won Web-development duties for New York-based Atkins Nutritionals, following a review that included undisclosed agencies. The site is expected to launch in January 2002.
New York-based commercial-production company Zero 2 Sixty teamed up with New York-based integrated-communications company The Tucker Partnership to create a 30-second spot for the ongoing Quaker State Motor Oil campaign. The commercial, which features actress Leah Remini from the TV show The King of Queens, broke nation ally in late July. The Zero 2 Sixty creative team included director Alex Turner, director of photography Ed Ste venson, executive producer Doug Robbins, senior producer Audrey Cohen, associate producer Theresa Loguercio and production designer Nick Goodman. The Tucker Partnership’s staff members who worked on the spot were managing partner Bill Tucker, partner Sean Kane, creative director/art director and copywriter Einar Gunnar Einarsson, copywriter Adrienne Adam and producer Walt Mitze.
A PSA created by design and visual-effects company Psyop Creative for the Partnership for a Drug-Free America conveys the dangers of inhalant abuse. The spot uses an animation technique in which colored inks were poured over carved-glass illustrations and filmed at high speed to depict an animated head sniffing inhalants until a wave of black ink engulfs him. New York-based Psyop Creative worked with Atlanta-based ad agency Sawyer Riley Compton on the commercial.
Saratoga Springs-based advertising and communications agency Palio Communications, which specializes in healthcare and consumer products, was tapped by pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline to work on Ecotrin. The agency will create a physician and consumer campaign to tout the over-the-counter aspirin brand. Palio is also offering ad support on Shire Pharmaceuticals Consumer Products Division’s Slow-Mag, an over-the-counter magnesium dietary supplement, including direct mail and trade-show work. Palio provides the following services: business-to-business and consumer advertising; brand development, analysis and management; global marketing; interactive communications; product launches; relationship marketing; and strat egically driven planning and creative.
Jericho Communications signed four new clients. The New York-based public re lations agency will create a public relations program to promote New York-based EMI Music Publishing’s Web site. The client is part of the EMI Group. The Ultimate Juice Co., based in Newark, N.J., hired Jericho to tout its Ziegler’s apple-cider brand and launch its Naked Juice brand. The agency was also tapped by Domino’s Pizza to promote the Ann Arbor, Mich.-based client’s World’s Fastest Pizza Maker competition. In addition, Jericho will create local-market and national branding campaigns for Boulder, Colo.- and Uniondale-based Westsoy, part of The Hain Cel estial Group.
Block Advertising & Marketing in Verona will create and implement branding strategies for Delta Carbona L.P., a stain-removal- products company based in Fairfield. Billings are expected to be about $3 million. The client’s products include Carbona Stain Wizard, Carbona Stain Wizard Wipes, Carbona Carpet Wizard, Carbona Pet Stain and Carbona Color Run Removal. Block Advertising will work on these brands and some new ones that the agency will help launch via consumer and trade promotions and public relations.
