TBWA/Chiat/Day, New York, has launched an ad campaign for New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art and its exhibition, “The American Century: Art & Culture 1900-2000.” The ads combine works such as Grant Wood’s “American Gothic” with documentary photographs and the tagline “Make some sense of America.”
Three BBDO Worldwide clients won Gold Edison trophies at the 1998 Edison Best New Products Awards. Gillette received the Grand Edison for its Mach 3 razor and blades; Frito-Lay’s Ruffles Wow! potato chips and DaimlerChrysler’s Dodge Durango both won gold awards. BBDO in New York creates ads for Gillette and Frito-Lay; Dodge is handled by the agency’s Detroit office.
Southard Communications, New York, has added seven assignments: Emerson Radio Corporation, a manufacturer of consumer electronics products; the upcoming bicentennial celebration of The Association of Graduates at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point; the U.S. launch of doll manufacturer GP Toys; Feld Entertainment, producer of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus; Briarpatch, a developer of games for pre-schoolers; real estate developer Tritec Real Estate Group, based in East Setauket; and New York architectural design firm Montroy Andersen.
Westway Trading tapped Eric Mower and Associates, Albany, to create ads for its Sweet Lac Transition and Lactation feed supplement products for dairy cows.
Marketing and advertising agencies Executive Marketing Services and Santapaola Associates have joined forces to form LKG&S in East Northport. Initial projects include work for Fox Family Channel and a promotional campaign for A&E’s Biography music series; other clients include Land O’Lakes and Candie’s.
A radio ad from Gelia Wells & Mohr, Clarence, was named Best of Show at the 28th annual Mobius Awards. The spot, titled “Flash Storm,” was created for Trico windshield wiper blades.
Spontaneous Combustion and David Carson Design, both in New York, jointly created the Ray Gun-inspired titles for six Sears ads. The 15-second spots from Young & Rubicam, New York, made their national debut at the end of last month.
Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide, New York, was selected by Dow Chemical and McKesson HBOC to handle internal and external communications.
Mary Quant tapped Firestone Associates, New York, to handle public relations. Firestone will help the cosmetics and clothing manufacturer further its presence in the United States market.

Morbelli Russo & Partners, Morristown, picked up three clients: the baby-products division of Springs Industries; insurance industry software provider Cover-All Technologies; and Siemens Medical Systems’ magnetic resonance imaging division.
RC/Triarc Beverages tapped Princeton-based media provider Floorgraphics to promote RC Cola’s sponsorship of Little League baseball. Floorgraphics will place baseball diamond-shaped ads on the floors of 1,000 grocery stores, with “home plate” located directly in front of the RC display.
PENNSYLVANIA
Elkman/Alexander & Partners, Philadelphia, won the advertising and media account of MarketPlace/Redwood, the management firm for the Philadelphia Marketplace and the Food & Shops at Philadelphia International Airport. The agency will create outdoor and print ads.
Norristown online health insurance provider HealthAxis tapped Roska Direct in Montgomeryville to increase traffic to its Web site, www.HealthAxis.com, via direct response and Web-based marketing.
LD&B Communications in Horsham has launched Internet communications campaigns for WorldGate Communications and Merrimac Interactive Services.

The West Coast Hockey League’s logo, designed by Silverman Group, New Haven, was voted the best in professional hockey in a poll conducted by hockey website “In the Crease.”
