ACS, Myer-Emco And Jungle Care Join The Client Roster Of Adworks

Adworks here is ringing in the New Year with three freshly signed client contracts amounting to more than $10 million in billings, according to the agency.
The new advertising accounts include American Communication Services (ACS) of Annapolis Junction, Md., which comprises the bulk of the billings; Gaithersburg, Md.-based Myer-Emco, an upscale electronics chain; and Vienna, Va.-based Jungle Care, which produces and markets high-end hair products for children.
“We’ve been tending our garden and cultivating these pieces of business for several months, involving numerous presentations, and they all came to fruition at the same time,” said Mark Greenspun, creative director at the Washington, D.C., agency. “The yeoman-like work has paid off for us. We’re excited to start 1998 this way.”
The wins are a sweet salve for the agency after the apparent loss of its largest client, the $30 million Hechinger home improvement retail chain account. Hechinger, which recently combined management in Largo, Md., with Builders Square, gave Adworks 90 days notice late last year, stating that it could repitch the consolidated account in three months. Sources inside Adworks, however, said the agency probably will not repitch the account.
Telecom firm ACS is in markets covering the South and Southwest. The company selected Adworks after a review of Baltimore-Washington, D.C.-area agencies that was reduced to three undisclosed shops.
“We chose them because they are smart, strategic, and a lot of fun to work with,” said Debbie Kaufmann, senior advertising manager at ACS. “I love the work they’ve done for other clients.”
Previously, American Communication Services’ agency was Ackerman McQueen in Tulsa, Okla., but the two parted ways about six months ago.
Myer-Emco, a metro Washington retailer with seven stores, is looking to reposition itself with new products like high-definition television.
Jungle Care, a new consumer packaged-goods company, has selected Adworks as its first agency.
