Lost amid the excitement of some of the big account shifts of late, such as Mitsubishi and Levi’s, are a couple of curious wins that are worthy of note.
Willman & Co. in Jacksonville, Fla., has been named to direct the publicity and promotions for the 20th anniversary re-release of Mommie Dearest (shown here), the hot-selling bio of Joan Crawford. The book, which launched a cottage industry of tell-all tomes from the offspring of the rich and famous, chronicled Christina Crawford’s life of alleged abuse at the hands of her mother. The tale spent 42 weeks on The New York Times’ best-seller list and was made into one of the most (unintentionally) camp movies of all time.
Separately, the Miami office of KWE Associates was awarded marketing responsibilities for a new chain of bars and lounges bearing the imprimatur of sun-bronzed actor George Hamilton. There are already Hamilton’s in Pasadena, Calif., and Las Vegas, with plans for five more this year.
