La Salsa Holding Co. selected The Phelps Group/West L.A. to handle advertising for its chain of Mexican quick-service restaurants.
The Blaine Group added InterActive Inc. to its roster. Humboldt, S.D.-based Interactive, which manufactures and markets personal-computer-based multimedia products for business communications, is slated to establish an advanced technology center in Carlsbad, Calif.
Brock Homes appointed The Weston Group/Brentwood agency of record for its 18 active new home communities in Southern California.
Lapin East/West won the following accounts: PGA of America, Wells Fargo Bank and the ECO Expo. Lapin will create a pr campaign for the PGA International Golf Show in Anaheim, Calif.; handle pr for the Wells Fargo Tournament of Roses float; and implement a pr campaign for the Boston ECO Expo.
Royal Caribbean Cruise Line awarded its pr account to The Fontayne Group/Santa Monica. The company was also named to handle a series of U.S. promotions for Switzerland’s Lake of Geneva Region.
Rogers & Associates added four accounts: airline Swissair, Quorum, CogniTech and W.L. Gore & Associates’ Regenerative Technologies. Phoenix-based Quorum markets consumer electronics; CogniTech in Atlanta is launching Sharkware, a software product; Flagstaff, Ariz.-based Gore retained the firm for a new periodontal product line.
OREGON
The Port of Portland Commission named Trail Blazers Inc. to operate the advertising concession at Portland International Airport. The contract is for five years for a minimum of $450,000 per year or a percentage of gross revenue, whichever is greater.
Washington Square selected The Coates Agency/Portland to handle advertising and pr for the mall’s year-long renovation and expansion. Coates won the account following a review that included seven local agencies.
Creative Co./Salem was hired by Hoody Corp. to handle marketing, package design and advertising for the Beaverton-based maker of nuts and snack foods.
Photon Kinetics, a Beaverton-based maker of fiber optic equipment, chose Grady Britton Advertising/Portland as agency of record following a review.
SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA
Pagliaro/Kuhlman picked up two new clients in computer networking. Legato Systems, Palo Alto, a marketer of back-up and recover software for Unix environments and Novell NetWare, selected the shop to develop a print ad campaign. Eagle Technology, a San Jose firm which manufactures networking attachment products, chose P/K for trade advertising.
COLORADO
Volan Design Associates/Boulder was selected to develop a corporate identity program for Cross Conditioning Systems, also Boulder, a manufacturer of exercise equipment.
Hathaway Corp., a Boulder-based manufacturer of electric power fault recording equipment and software marketer, named Carl Thompson Associates/Boulder to develop a national investor relations and media relations program. The agency was also awarded a one-year contract to develop a national investor and media relations program for AirSensors and Swisher International.
WASHINGTON
Creative Works Advertising/Seattle was appointed agency of record by Applied Voice Technology. Creative will provide market research and analysis, print advertising, direct mail and media planning and buying for the client.
The Washington Software Association, Redmond, selected Parallel Communications to develop a new identity program for the group’s print and visual communications.
McKnight & Co./Seattle acquired three new accounts: Ostex International, ‘Northwest Environmental Compliance Report’ and Bogle & Gates. For Ostex, a biotechnology firm, McKnight will develop a marketing communications and pr program. The shop will manage pr for Bogle & Gates, a law firm, and develop collateral for the Northwest Report.
The Kirkland office of Floathe Johnson picked up the North American ad account for Kenworth Truck Co. The agency, which said the account will bill $2.5 million, will provide creative, account, media services and collateral. Floathe Johnson also was awarded these accounts: Omega Environmental, a Bothell-based firm that helps companies comply with EPA regulations; Biomed Inc., Bellevue, which develops health management products for fish farming livestock; Statistical Sciences, a Seattle-based software developer; and Scan/US, another software developer based in L.A.
Media Plus + in Seattle was awarded three new accounts. The media consulting company picked up La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries and Shoppes for media planning and placement in the Seattle area; California Manufactured Housing Association for infomercials; and Street of Dreams, producers of luxury home tours, for planning and radio placement.
