7-Eleven Continues to Back Andretti Team

DALLAS The 7-Eleven convenience-store chain has renewed its sponsorship of the Andretti Green Racing team and will remain a backer of others, the company said.

Dallas-based 7-Eleven was the primary sponsor of the Andretti Green Racing entry driven by 2004 IndyCar Series champion Tony Kanaan for the past two seasons. The company has also been an associate sponsor on the No. 26 and No. 27 cars of Andretti Green Racing, which are driven by 2003 IndyCar Series rookie of the year Dan Wheldon and two-time race winner Dario Franchitti.

Kanaan, who came in second behind fellow Brazilian Helio Castroneves in the Chevy 500 race Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, had already clinched the IndyCar Series championship. Kanaan—the first driver in any major series to finish every lap in a season—made it through 16 races over nine months for Andretti Green Racing without an accident, engine failure or a flat tire.

“The support and endorsement we’re getting from 7-Eleven through this agreement has played a big role in our winning this year’s IndyCar Series championship,” said racing legend Mario Andretti, co-owner of Andretti Green Racing with partners Kim Green and Kevin Savoree.

The 7-Eleven chain includes 5,800 stores in the U.S. and Canada and 20,000 stores in 17 other countries and U.S. territories. Last year, 7-Eleven stores worldwide generated total sales of more than $36 billion, the company said.
