12 Shops Vie for 2 TVA Programs

The Tennessee Valley Authority’s Green Power Switch and Energy Right initiatives are in review.

Vic Owens, contracts manager at the Knoxville, Tenn.-based public utility whose roots go back to the New Deal, confirmed that a dozen shops are competing for the estimated $2 million business.

The Green Power Switch program is dedicated to developing alternative energy sources; Energy Right promotes conservation.

Owens suggested that the request for proposal that went out earlier this month might become the basis for assigning TVA’s $12 million overall marketing business.

“We are giving ourselves some flexibility to use this rfp if other requirements come up,” Owens said. “That’s why we’re looking for a full-service agency.”

Fitzgerald + Co. in Atlanta held the TVA account for almost a decade before resigning after winning the Southern Company/Georgia Power business earlier this year.

“TVA is a marquee brand and a great company,” said Lisa Galanti, managing director at Fitzgerald.

Owens said the contenders are located in TVA’s seven-state region—Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. They include Fletcher Martin Ewing in Atlanta and Bohan Carden & Cherry and The Buntin Group, both in Nashville, Tenn.
