YouTube’s Live TV Streaming Service Is Officially Available for Subscription

YouTube’s answer to a live TV streaming service is available for download and will start streaming on Thursday. YouTube TV joins other offerings, including DirecTV Now, PlayStation VUE and Sling TV, that provide livestreaming and on-demand TV programs. (Adweek)

YouTube TV is now available in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Philadelphia. For $35 per month, subscribers will have access to live television programming from more than 50 networks including ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox and ESPN. (THR)

YouTube TV bundles together more than 40 live broadcast and cable channels, YouTube Red Originals content, and, perhaps best of all, gives you cloud DVR with unlimited storage. YouTube’s offering a free 30-day trial, and you can also score a free Chromecast after your first month’s payment (while supplies last). (Mashable)

YouTube TV’s anchor programming comprises the broadcast and cable networks from four media conglomerates: Disney/ABC, 21st Century Fox, CBS and NBCUniversal. Soon after launch, YouTube TV will add AMC Networks’ AMC, BBC America, IFC, SundanceTV, WeTV and BBC World News. Absent from YouTube TV’s lineup for the foreseeable future: Time Warner’s HBO and Turner networks, including CNN, TBS and TNT; Viacom networks like Comedy Central and MTV; Discovery Communications; and Scripps Networks Interactive’s channels like HGTV and Food Network. It also plans to offer AMC’s subscription VOD services: Sundance Now (independent film, TV series and documentaries for $7 a month) and Shudder (thriller, supernatural and horror films for $5). CBS-owned Showtime will be available as a premium add-on. (Deadline)
