All-Male Late-Night Vanity Fair Photo Highlights Sexism in Industry, Critics Say

By Christine Zosche

Vanity Fair released a feature on late-night television from its upcoming October issue with a photo spread on hosts like Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver and more. Many people on Twitter instantly commented on the photograph’s glaring lack of women combined with the headline “Why Late-Night Television Is Better Than Ever.” The Vanity Fair article itself points out the lack of women in the current late-night lineup. VF notes “comedic redress is on its way, in the form of two new shows created from scratch: Samantha Bee’s for TBS and Chelsea Handler’s for Netflix. (Both shows are due in 2016.)” (Deadline)

That glaring omission was not lost on former Daily Show correspondent Samantha Bee, who tweeted her own improved version of the photo Monday. She labeled the original image “good,” then presented a “better” edit, with herself Photoshopped in as a muscular, tattooed centaur with laser-beam eyes. (EW)
