Ad of the Day

Samsung "R&D"

Brand: Samsung Wireless Telephones
Agency: Leo Burnett USA, Inc.
Review Date: August 14, 2009

As much as we all love Ozzy, it's time for the rock legend to exit the pitch business. Every ad he's in finds the aging heavy-metal anti-hero blurting out beeped obscenities and looking befuddled. That pretty much describes this ad for Samsung's Solstice phone. We also get a lab-coat-wearing chimp that sends Ozzy a video of its own guitar-shredding performance as an invitation to join a new band. Primates are always adorable, but I hate to see them in lab settings -- it brings animal testing to mind. The spot ends with a voiceover extolling: "Make yourself a multimedia superstar." Ironically Ozzy's status as such is diminished with each new commercials he makes.--Eleftheria Parpis

We've seen some awful commercials with plenty of cheese out there this last year from any package good and any big brand and this is not one of those. Kudos to the team.

This is possible the cheesiest commercial of the year. Would have ad potential if it was a chicken though.

as a follow up to the first ozzy spot samsung did i suppose they took it to the "samsung" test lab to get some better branding recall. good recovery for the team if that's the case.

price of darkness has gone a little soft but still carries his own following, even if they are primates

sounds like a bunch of old hacks are grumbling again - the ones that do better criticizing and less time actually making great work. ozzy funny. chimp funny. lab funny. "a-" for effort.

Could it be that in the meeting the Client leaned over to the Account guy and said: "I'd like the chips, please"?

isn't this the agency run by mark tuttsel, the man who knows so much about award-winning work? how in the world does something like this get out of an agency run by such a creative luminary?

This is terrible. I don't blame the agency, i blame the client for poor judgement. It's gonna fail in every way

Sooooooo bad! So so so so bad! Ozzy was at all relevant when? 5-10 years ago when he was a joke on his reality show. and you're bringing him because? Oh but wait, all the best spots have animals in them....so, we'll put in a monkey too. yeah that makes it really funny and unexpected. all been done way better before...like 10-15 years ago.

Wait didn't this director do the terrible Mr. Woodstock? It seems like he hasn't learned anything.
