Google "Day #1"

Brand: Google
Agency: In-House
Review Date: August 04, 2009

Billboards seem like an apt medium for Google's advertising. Consider: the black-on-white simplicity of this roadside salvo touting Google's Enterprise software suite effectively evokes the iconic search window of its Web site. Plus, the initial billboards serve as teaser "questions," while the latter in the series, appearing over successive days, provide answers. What could be more "Google-esque" than that? If nothing else, the outdoor work is more compelling than that oddball commercial for Google's Chrome browser a while back. Wags might insist Big G's Enterprise has about as much chance of challenging Microsoft Office in the business applications race -- in the near term at least -- as Chrome has of gaining serious market share from MS Explorer. Some might ask why the Web giant felt compelled to launch the effort (running in just four U.S. markets) at all. Perhaps to remind its rivals that no mater what the nature of the online game, Google intends to play. As for the long odds of winning against an entrenched leader, remember: AltaVista looked unstoppable in search back in '99. UPDATE: After only a few hours, Google billboard parodies have appeared, giving the story more traction and Google lots of free publicity. Not all the buzz is positive, but any buzz is better than none. Not bad for Day #1. --David Gianatasio

Expect better stuff from Google esp. bcoz it advertises so less, so whenever it does, it should be good. Too technical. Too boring. And so uninteresting.

This should be break-through creative. Google has an excellent creative leader, with solid agency background and this is the crap the push out? Embarrassing.
