Sharpie "Twin Tip"

Brand: Sharpie Markers & Writing Instruments
Agency: DraftFCB
Review Date: June 15, 2009

Who doesn't love writing with a Sharpie? That smelly print is a tactile treat, and the functionality has been showcased in various ways through the years. In '08, we saw David Beckham (sigh)-ning autographs with the pen. This year, the ads take a low-budget approach, with a campaign from Draftfcb celebrating self-expression with the tagline, "Uncap what's inside." The spot shown here showcases the Sharpie Twin Tip marker. The voiceover explains: "Opposites attract to make the perfect pair," as the camera pulls back to reveal that the sun/moon art -- with lines both thick and thin -- have been drawn on a pair of sneakers. It's a  colorful spot with animation that catches the eye, but the line could lead viewers to think Sharpie has two opposite colors on each end, as the camera cuts from the orange and red palette of the sun to the blue of the moon. The spot directs viewers to sharpieuncapped.com, a site that allows visitors to virtually draw with the twin tip and upload their own Sharpie artworks. --Eleftheria Parpis
