Las Vegas Tourism "ChinChilli Day"

Brand: Las Vegas Tourism
Agency: R&R Partners
Review Date: June 05, 2009

Gun-wielding chinchillas rise up against their owners in a bloody three-day battle that is forever commemorated with "ChinChilli Day." Haven't heard of the holiday? Neither has the boss in this funny spot for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority that has an employee serving up a tall tale of a rodent revolution in order to get a day off for a long weekend in Vegas. His "people" managed to quell the violence, but not before we see the pets lunge for a woman's throat, set off explosions and massacre the townsfolk with their tiny guns. "Every year my people celebrate the victory over the revolt," he tells his boss. And "how do you celebrate?" he asks. "Three days in Vegas. It's a cultural obligation." The boss miraculously buys it, or else can't be bothered to question the outrageous story. The entertaining ad ends with on-screen copy asking, "What's your excuse?" before driving viewers to VisitLasVegas.com. --Eleftheria Parpis

All I'm saying is that this ad made me stop fast-forwarding my TiVo, watch the spot, and then go to YouTube to see who created it. When I got to YouTube, the Chinchillas owned the ad space as well, sending me to the Vegas.com website (via YouTube). Brilliant, and a very cool integration that grabs people and takes them all the way thru to planning their trip to Vegas.

This commercial is awesome! Funny and memorable. One of the few commercials I wanted to share with friends (found this site/thread via google looking for a vid to forward).

This ad is classic and reaches the target market. This site has too many no names giving 1 star reviews saying the agencies don't know what they are doing.

I can't imagine being one of these people who gave it 1 star and said it wasn't funny. I can't imagine what they must actually find humorous.

Faunny as all get out. Bonus points for taking my mind of Jon & Kate's depressing divorce news.

I thought it was pretty freaking funny.

I thought it was hilarious in such a ridiculous way. Looks like something out of a "stoner" movie but it's funny none the less

This is fun. Considering the state of the economy and the effect it must be having on Vegas tourism, kudos to the town for not airing lame price point specials ads.

What were they thinking? Or were they? Farcical reason to celebrate - good idea. Chinchilli - sophomoric. Bad for the brand. Las Vegas doesn't want to be frivolous now a days.

I imagine this board was very funny. Hungry Man went "Caddyshack" on this spot. I wonder how it would have turned out if they chose Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" instead.

Anyone who gives this four stars either works for the agency who created it or the production company that produced it. Just not funny.

Tough crowd here. Personally, I find it funny, memorable and a reminder to visit Vegas. However, next time, say it was done by Crispin and you will get four starts from everyone. :-) Nice job, R&R!

While I don't love the spot, I don't hate it nor do I think it warrants being panned. I'd love Dave, Derek, Wilhelm, Blake and Chimichanga to post a link to some of their work. That'd be a fun game don't ya think?

Unlike Crispin's "Little Mexican" ad for Burger King, this insults a much larger group: Anyone with a brain.

    Lame.

Concept is good but the execution is terrible. So broad and unfunny.

    Not funny at all.
