NEW YORK Jeff Weiner is going to have to update his LinkedIn profile. Named interim president in January 2008, he was promoted to CEO today. Weiner has also joined the company's board of directors.

In his role as CEO, Weiner will work beside founder Reid Hoffman, who will remain LinkedIn's executive chairman.

Since arriving early last year, Weiner has managed all of LinkedIn's business operations and has helped to define the company's advancement on a global scale. To date, LinkedIn has surpassed more than 42 million users worldwide and has acquired over $100 million in investment funding.

"LinkedIn was founded to harness the power of the Internet to create a tool that would help individuals become more effective and successful professionals," said Hoffman in a statement. "Over the past six months, Jeff has done an exceptional job leading the company and I look forward to continuing the work that we have begun together."

With over 14 years of online leadership experience, Weiner's past positions include executive in residence at Accel Partners and Greylock Partners, as well as executive vice president for the Yahoo Network Division, where he managed Yahoo's consumer Web product portfolio.
