IAC's Citysearch Expands

Coverage includes 75,000 cities and neighborhoods

Nov 20, 2008

- Mike Shields, Mediaweek

NEW YORK IAC’s Citysearch said it has expanded its coverage range from its core 140 local cities guides (such as NewYork.citysearch.com) to 75,000 cities and neighborhoods across the U.S.

The expansion is part of a major overhaul for the long-running local business-oriented brand, which on Nov. 19 unveiled a new beta version of its site featuring a slew of new tools.

Among the new offerings is an enhanced search offering that IAC executives claim will allow users to conduct more localized and refined queries -- down to the ZIP code level. The new site design is meant to encourage more user participation, as regular visitors can now establish personal profiles where they can showcase businesses they’ve reviewed on the site.

In addition, these users can integrate their Citysearch profiles with their Facebook friends' lists, allowing them to share opinions and information via both sites. IAC officials said that the new site would be integrated with other social networking sites in the near future.

Lastly, Citysearch has also rolled out a new mobile site that allows users to access, post and share reviews of local businesses using various of mobile devices.
