'WSJ' Floats Fins.com

July 14, 2009

- Mike Shields

NEW YORK The Wall Street Journal has launched Fins.com, a job search site targeted at financial professionals.

The new Web property carries the tagline "Propel your career" (the site's name is meant as a type of shorthand for "finance"). It blends a mix of job listings, recruitment ads and career-search related editorial -- all filtered through the lens of the Wall Street/financial world.

On the editorial front, Fins.com features several regular columns, including the blog-esque Bull/Bear Report, which tracks industry job openings, as well as the daily Morning Coffee, which summarizes the news from the financial world and its likely impact on the hiring market.

As for job-seeking resources, Journal executives claim that Fins.com houses detailed research on over 1,500 companies, and the site offers various tools to help searchers narrow down information on specific sectors and corporations.

The hope is that the new site, which like the company's successful digital-media themed venture AllThingsD.com is not overtly Wall Street Journal branded, can help expand its reach among consumers.

"Fins.com is an innovative new business intended to help super-serve our current customers in multiple dimensions of their lives and attract new customers to the Journal franchise," said Ann Sarnoff, president of Dow Jones Ventures.
