Fidelity's Huang Joins BofA

Marketing vet will lead global wealth and investment unit

April 17, 2008

- David Gianatasio

BOSTON Former Fidelity Investments marketing exec Claire Huang has been named head of marketing at Bank of America's global wealth and investment management division, BofA said today.

In that capacity, she reports to BofA chief marketing officer Anne Finucane. Huang takes the post from Jim Drury, who held the position since May 2006. Drury will lead a strategic assessment of how unit defines its client segments and goes to market.

Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos here, a unit of Interpublic Group, handles creative chores for that unit of BofA. (The client last month shifted all media chores on its $250 million account to Publicis Groupe's Starcom in Chicago.)

Huang has nearly 25 years of corporate marketing and brand management experience, most recently serving as evp, marketing and segement management at mutual funds giant Fidelity Investments (where she used Havas-owned agency Arnold, also here).

"Claire is one of the nation's most distinguished marketing executives, possessing extensive expertise building highly effective brand awareness campaigns geared toward mass affluent consumers in the areas of retirement services and investment solutions," Finucane said in a statement. "She is assuming this position at a pivotal time, as Bank of America recognizes great opportunity to significantly expand its presence in the retirement marketplace."

Hill, Holliday in October broke an estimated $25 milion push for the wealth and investment unit that profiled "everyday millionaires." One spot, titled "Meat Loaf," featured a man sitting at the counter of a quiet diner. The voiceover explained: "Two thousand bottles of wine in his cellar and yet somehow he never lost touch with his inner meat loaf."
