Vanzura Leaves GM's Cadillac

May 12, 2008

-By Gregory Solman

LOS ANGELES Liz Vanzura, global marketing director at General Motors' Cadillac, "has elected to leave GM" and relocate to the Boston area because her husband scored a new job in the region, according to GM.

No date has been given for naming her replacement and GM does not anticipate an agency change from independent Modernista!, which is based in Boston.

Cadillac spent nearly $230 million in U.S. measured media last year, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.

Vanzura could not be reached, and the shop declined comment, though sources said it would be unlikely she would take a job at the agency despite long-standing ties to executives there.

In addition to working with Modernista! on both GM's Cadillac and Hummer, in the 1990s at Volkswagen she worked with agency co-founder Lance Jensen when the account was handled by Havas' Arnold, also in Boston, and Jensen was a key player on the "Drivers wanted" campaign.

Cadillac sales are down 4 percent through April 2008 to 61,000 units, per Car Concepts, Thousand Oaks, Calif., with all models but the CTS, which is up 43 percent, but down compared to the same period a year ago.
