GSD&M Hires Wal-Mart's Rogers

July 23, 2008

- Gregory Solman

LOS ANGELES Omnicom's GSD&M Idea City has hired Tony Rogers from Wal-Mart. He joins the Austin, Texas-based shop on Aug. 11 in a senior executive role, though his title has not been determined.

Rogers, Wal-Mart's vp, advertising since 2005, began working with GSD&M in 2003 when he was part of the Frito-Lay team that hired the agency on Tostitos. Rogers continued his working relationship with the agency during his Wal-Mart tenure.

"GSD&M believes, as I do, that great brands and great organizations have a higher purpose that drives everything they do," said Rogers in a statement "I'm so proud to have been a part of the transformation at Wal-Mart."

Rogers added that at the agency he would dedicate his efforts "to helping brands and companies discover their true purpose with the agency that has pioneered the concept of purpose-based branding."

Duff Stewart, shop president, said: "We've always been impressed with how much heart, head and soul Tony brings to every effort and we're incredibly fortunate that he has decided to join us."
