Razorfish Buys Spanish Shop

With Wysiwyg acquisition, Razorfish continues its expansion in Europe

BOSTON Razorfish has expanded its footprint in Europe by acquiring Madrid, Spain-based digital ad shop Wysiwyg.

The agency, with about 55 employees, works across all digital platforms, including Web sites, video and mobile marketing. The shop's current leadership remains in place, as does the Wysiwyg name. President Sixto Rodriguez, co-managing directors Ignacio Alvarez-Borras Feijoo and Adolfo Gonzalez and ecd Marga Castano lead the agency.

Darin Brown, president of Razorfish's operations in Europe, called the addition of Wysiwyg "a significant milestone" as his shop, an autonomous unit of Microsoft, builds its network in Europe, where it serves clients such as Asda, Starwood Hotels, the International Olympic Committee and Weight Watchers.

In a statement, Rodriguez said: "We are certainly proud of the identity we created for ourselves over the last 13 years. At the same time, Razorfish has a great reputation for innovation and we are thrilled to be part of an international company. Joining the network was the right thing to do."

Nokia, Coca-Cola and Barclays rank among the agency's top clients. Wysiwyg and Razorfish had not previously collaborated and had no prior strategic relationship.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Razorfish recently shortened its name from Avenue A/Razorfish. Apart from the U.S. and Spain, its other offices are located in the U.K., Australia, China, France, Germany and Japan.
