SAN FRANCISCO Brad Fogel has been named managing director of Grey West, which covers operations here and in Los Angeles, the WPP Group agency said today.

Fogel, who has been CMO at Grey West for the past year, takes over from Betsy Sperry, who is leaving the shop "to pursue other professional interests in the digital arena," according to Grey.

In a statement, Jim Heekin, chairman and CEO of Grey Group, said of Fogel: "His energy, team building approach, client focus and success in marshalling the agency's resources have put Grey West front and center in accelerating the growth of their current clients' business and winning new business."

He also praised Sperry: "During her tenure, she guided Grey San Francisco's evolution to a single integrated business model, uniting advertising, digital and media under one roof, creating a powerful competitive advantage that was validated with the recent BMW win. She leaves on a high note."

Grey West in recent weeks has added BMW of North America's regional ad business, as well as work from Autonet and InsideTrack.
