Conoco, 76 in Play

Client spent $30 mil. last year to back brands, almost all of it on Conoco

March 10, 2009

- Andrew McMains

NEW YORK ConocoPhillips has hired Roth Associates to oversee a review of creative chores on its Conoco and 76 gasoline brands, the client said today.

Traditional and digital assignments on Conoco and 76 are up for grabs. Media is not in play. Creative for other brands owned by the Houston-based company is also not up for grabs.

The client spent $30 million in measured media last year backing Conoco and 76 after spending $15 million on ads for those properties in 2007, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus. Almost all of the spending backed Conoco.

In a statement, the client said it initiated the review "to ensure it has the best possible resources, partners and practices in place. This search reflects the company's goal to lead the category and be prepared for the changing landscape."

The process is slated to conclude by June.

Roth is expected to initially reach out to 10-12 shops initially. Roth and the client could not immediately be reached for comment.
