Rust-Oleum Glides to Mcgarrybowen

The Chicago office of mcgarrybowen has landed creative duties on Rust-Oleum after a review, the agency has confirmed.

In making the selection, client vp of marketing and R&D Kurt Hardy cited the Dentsu shop's "solid insights and breakthrough creative" on what he described as a "tough strategic assignment."

The other finalists were Energy BBDO in Chicago, Interpublic Group's Hill, Holliday in Boston and the incumbent, independent Periscope in Minneapolis, confirmed Jones Lundin Beals, the Chicago-based consultancy that managed the process.

Major media spending on the brand totaled nearly $6 million in the first 11 months of 2009 -- about the same as in all of 2008, according to Nielsen. Those figures don't include online spending.

The new agency's first work is expected to break in late June or early July.

Mcgarrybowen Chicago's other clients include Kraft Foods (Kraft Singles, Philadelphia Cream Cheese, Oscar Mayer, Miracle Whip) and Disney parks and resorts.
