NEW YORK The CLIO Awards Festival, one of the world's most recognized international  advertising and design competitions, will begin accepting submissions at clioawards.com today.

The competition, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, has also tweaked the format a bit. In previous years the show's five distinct award categories, including The Moving Image Awards, The Emerging Media Awards, The Print & Radio Awards, The Design Awards and the Lifetime Achievement Awards, were given out over two nights. Now, CLIO has spread the events over three nights and two luncheons.

"What we've done in the past is we've crammed everything into two nights, so now we've come up with five distinct shows," said Wayne Youkhana, director of the CLIO Awards, which, like AdweekMedia, is owned by the Nielsen Co. The event, which had been held in Miami for the past few years, will also be in a new venue -- Las Vegas. "This is really the right city for a celebration," said Youkhana.

CLIO is currently accepting submissions for work appearing between Jan. 1, 2008 and Dec. 31, 2008. The entry submission deadline is Jan. 23, 2009. An executive jury panel composed of industry experts will be announced later this month. Last year, CLIO netted around 20,000 submissions, Youkhana said.
